Bosch acquires majority stake in Johnson Hitachi

Bosch group has acquired 74.2% stake in Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning India (JCHAI).

  • The acquisition is effective July 31, 2025 and is consequent to the $8 billion global deal, wherein Bosch announced a takeover of the AC solutions business for residential and light commercial buildings from Johnson Controls about a year ago.
  • JCHAI’s acquisition positions Bosch as a full-spectrum player, adding ACs to its existing premium appliance offerings.
    • Bosch currently has a home appliances business in India, selling refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, kitchen appliances and vacuum cleaners, positioned in the premium segment.
  • Bosch informed that it will soon announce details of the mandatory open offer for the balance 25.75% of JCHAI.

Please note that acquisition is by Robert Bosch GmbH and Bosch Global Software Technologies Private Limited and not directly by the listed Bosch entity in India. However, these two acquirers also hold 70.54% in the listed Bosch.

As the current acquisition is due to the global deal, personally I would not be surprised that going forward JCHAI (after becoming private or not) gets merged into the listed Bosch.
