The Company is in the process of expanding it’s production capacity of solar glass by adding a 3rd furnace (SG-3) of 550MT/ day that would more than double it’s total current capacity of about 500 MT.
This would allow the Company to cater to a total solar industry demand of about 5GW annually as against 2.5GW served today.
Initially in December 2020, the plan was to expand by 500 MT/ day at a cost of Rs 518 crore. However, subsequently in August 2021 company realigned the numbers to 550 MT/ day at Rs 600 crore due to inflation and recalculations.
Company informed the following on 14th July 2022 about SG-3 expansion –
Finally, the Company informed to have started the trial production from SG-3 on January 26, 2023. This is a delay of about 6 months from the original timelines.
Capacity is 550 MTD as expected.
