Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, founder of Biocon, has indicated that she was preparing for a gradual leadership transition over the next five years.
Her niece, Claire Mazumdar, is expected to eventually take over from her as chairperson of Biocon.
- Claire Mazumdar, 37 years of age, is a biotech specialist and currently heads Bicara Therapeutics as its founder and CEO.
- The firm, which was incubated by Biocon and later listed on NASDAQ, went public in 2024 and now has a market valuation of over $1.6 billion.
- However, the transition is expected to be gradual. Mazumdar-Shaw has clarified that she is not stepping down immediately, noting that she will continue in her role while Claire progressively takes on greater responsibilities.
