TVS Motor and BMW Motorrad have announced the expansion of their cooperation agreement for future technologies and electric vehicles.
Key points to note –
- In simple terms, for now it means they will co develop the electric vehicles (EVs).
- The 1st product through this new announcement is targeted to be ‘showcased’ in the next 24 months.
- TVS and BMW relationship started in April 2013, when they decided to partner to manufacture sub-500 cc motorcycles for the global markets. So far they have come out with three products – BMW G 310 R, BMW 310 GS, and TVS Motor Company’s TVS Apache RR 310. These motorcycles have been sold to 1,00,000+ customers globally.
I am personally not surprised by the announcement given the already existing long relationship and neither TVS nor BMW can afford to ignore the EV trend (like any other auto company today).
Though one must also note that factually the partnership has not resulted in much over the last 9 years of relationship. Number of models and customers is nothing to get excited about.
Hope, the future turns out better and they really come out with products worth the current excitement around the announcement.
